Nokia N80, Smartphone QuadBand di Jamannya
Nokia N80 yang sudah dirilis empat tahun yang lalu, tepatnya pada tanggal 26 April 2006, berselisih lima bulan sebelum dirilisnya Nokia N95 menjadi menarik untuk dibicarakan, terutama jika fiturnya dibandingkan dengan fitur Nokia seri terbaru.
Di jamannya itu Nokia N80 diperkenalkan ke publik sebagai sebuah smartphone, sekalipun … memory internalnya hanya sebesar 40 MB. Dan meskipun kapasitasnya masih bisa ditambah melalui micro SD, tetapi tak lebih dari 128 MB.
Bandingkan dengan memory internal N Series terakhir, misalnya Nokia N97 atau N900 yang berkapasitas sebesar 32 GB. Bahkan masih bisa ditambah lagi melalui kartu Micro SD sampai 16 GB.
Sebagai smartphone, Nokia N80 dapat dioperasikan di berbagai frekuensi atau Quad Band dengan spesifikasi 2G Network GSM 850/900/1800/1900 dan 3G Network UMTS 2100.
Di jamannya, tidak setiap hand phone didisain seperti N80, kebanyakan hanya beroperasi di dua atau tiga jalur frekuensi. Dalam soal jaringan operasi, hand phone ini jelas lebih unggul dikelasnya.
Sementara untuk N series terbaru rata-rata beroperasi dengan spesifikasi 2G Network GSM 850/900/1800/1900 dan 3G Network HSDPA 900/1700/2100. Teknologi ini menjadi kelengkapan mutlak karena terkait dengan pengoperasian peta atau Maps yang saat ini sudah menjadi salah satu fitur bagi setiap smartphone. Disamping itu juga untuk mendukung beberapa aplikasi baru yang pengoperasiannya membutuhkan jaringan tersebut.
Kamera utama Nokia N80 memiliki spesifikasi 3.15 MP, 2048×1536 pixels, LED flash, sedangkan rata-rata N Series terbaru berspesifikasi 5 MP, 2576×1936 pixels, yang dilengkapi autofocus, Dual LED flash, dan video light. Di jamannya, ketajaman gambar yang dihasilkan oleh kamera ini cukup lumayan dan sebanding dengan gambar yang dihasilkan kamera dari merk lain
Perbedaan antara N80 dengan N Series terbaru yang paling menarik terletak pada dimensinya. Nokia N80 memiliki panjang 95 mm dengan lebar 50 mm. Ini lebih kecil dibandingkan rata-rata ukuran N Series terbaru. Tapi N80 memiliki ketebalan 26 mm, yang ini justru dua kali lipat dari tebal N Series terbaru.
