Karena itu, peluncuran N97 di beberapa negara disertai dengan gebyar promosi yang menggetarkan kompetitornya. Kebetulan di saat tersebut Ovi Store yang menyediakan berbagai aplikasi untuk kedua versi tersebut baru saja diupdate
Persamaan Nokia 5800 Vs N97 terletak pada sistem operasi mereka dengan versi yang sama persis, yaitu Symbian OS v9.4, Series 60 rel. 5. Keduanya juga menggunakan CPU dengan kapasitas yang sama, ARM 11 434 MHz processor. Keduanya memiliki kemampuan beroperasi dengan jaringan 2G pada GSM GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900.
